Textiles Matter Exhibition
The curation of circular textiles and materials
This curated exhibition featured emerging material and textile innovators and showcases tangible insights into circular design. The exhibition was built up in four circles, each representing a theme ‘Make & Remake’, ‘Continuous’, ‘From Earth’ and ‘Engineered Nature’.
Each circle contained three nested circles: the outer circle showcased exhibition design pieces, the middle circle featured a Future Materials Library, and the innermost circle hosted live showcases from creative studios. The Future Materials Library demonstrated the four life stages of materials—from raw material to processed material, to final sample, and end of life—illustrating how these materials can form a circular lifecycle.
Circularity was a central focus in the exhibition design and construction, emphasising the sustainable use of resources. Materials from past Heimtextil archives were repurposed for the exhibition design to achieve this. Additionally, products were rented or borrowed, and partnerships with local suppliers minimized travel emissions, reducing the overall environmental impact. This commitment to sustainability was visually communicated through a cohesive design system.
